How did Serve the City begin?
Serve the City was started by Christian Associates International in Brussels, Belgium in 2005. It is currently being held in 50 cities and 25 countries worldwide. Including Lexington, Georgetown and Winchester right here in Central Kentucky.
What is Serve the City?
Serve the City is a volunteer effort of multiple churches and organizations banning together to serve the community in which they live. The hope is walls created in our community by race, religion and socioeconomic status are torn away as we reach out to our neighbors in need.
What kind of projects are involved in Serve the City?
The projects are a broad range of simple tasks like visiting nursing homes, preparing and providing meals, to handing out care packages to our homeless friends to more physical labor projects like painting, cleaning up the garbage of our streets and parks, landscaping and more. Anyway we can lend a hand to our city!
How often does Serve the City take place?
Currently Serve the City takes place one Saturday during the Spring and then again in the Fall with the hopes of adding smaller events throughout the year. Also with hopes that the volunteers will find a place they can connect with and continue to serve as often as they can.
Who can come to Serve the City?
Serve the City is for everyone! Our goal is to provide projects for anyone with the desire to give a few hours of their time to their neighbors and their community.
